How to disclose brand deals on TikTok (Paid partnership label)

If a brand pays you, sends free product, or you earn commission, disclose it. TikTok has a built-in setting, and the US FTC expects a clear disclosure too.

Turn on TikTok's content disclosure (from the post screen)

  1. Create a post.
  2. Tap Content disclosure and ads (or More options → Content disclosure and ads).
  3. Turn on Disclose commercial content.
  4. Choose Your brand (labeled Promotional content) or Branded content for a third-party brand (labeled Paid partnership). You can tag the brand partner.
  5. Tap Save, then Continue, then Post.

You can also turn it on after posting from the post's More options → Ad settings, and for LIVE from LIVE settings → Content disclosure. TikTok says once published, the label can't be changed; if you chose wrong, remove the post and repost. TikTok also says turning the setting on doesn't affect distribution in feeds.

What the FTC says

The FTC's influencer guide says to disclose any financial, employment, personal or family relationship with a brand, including free products, in a way that's hard to miss, using simple words like "advertisement," "ad," or "sponsored," and in the video itself, not only in the caption.

Log the disclosure in your tracker's video log so you can show a brand you did it.
